About the Medway Test (11+)
The Medway Test (11+) is a selective exam used to determine eligibility for admission to Medway's grammar schools. It assesses a student's abilities in English, Mathematics, and Reasoning, with each paper carefully designed to evaluate key skills aligned with the grammar school curriculum and academic expectations.
Medway Test (11+) Structure
The Medway Test (11+) comprises three distinct papers, each targeting essential academic skills.
English
Assesses reading comprehension, grammar, and punctuation.
Mathematics
Evaluates mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills.
Reasoning
Tests verbal and non-verbal reasoning abilities.
Scoring & Selection
Standardisation Process
Raw scores from each paper are standardised to account for age differences among candidates, ensuring fairness. The standardised scores are then weighted and combined to produce a total score.
Score Weighting
The English and Mathematics scores are each given double weighting in the total score calculation, emphasising the importance of these core subjects.
Selection Criteria
The pass mark varies annually based on cohort performance. Typically, approximately 25% of the Medway cohort are deemed selective.
